JMU School Psychology student alumna, Tina Kauten  passed away after having fought valiantly with cancer. Tina is survived by her husband, two daughters, and a granddaughter. Tina was a positive, enthusiastic learner and she was an inspiration to fellow classmates and faculty during her treatments and illness. The JMU school psychology program has decided to name its annual service award the “Tina Kauten Memorial Service Award,” which is given to an outstanding school psychology student at our spring awards ceremony. The award is given to a student who goes beyond course requirements in supporting and serving peers, the community and the university. These characteristics were certainly apparent in Tina, and it is with this memory of her that we feel the annual service award will be aptly named.
