Is JMU Psychology right for you?


The goal of the JMU Psychology Major is to help students think like scientists about behavior. This series of short videos is designed to help you learn more about our program and help you decide if what we offer is right for you.

This video series was created by Katherine Greiner in consultation with Michael Stoloff during the 2009-10 academic year and were published in May 2010.  They feature many psychology majors and faculty of the Department of Psychology. 

Curriculum

A description of the required courses and commentary by students about their favorite courses within the psychology curriculum. More details about the curriculum.

Special   Opportunities

First   Year

Students describe their initial experiences and offer advice for new students.

Learning   Community

Research

Field   Placement

Through our field placements, students get experience working at local agencies. More information about field placements

Minors

Many psychology majors pursue a minor, second major, or pre-professional program that creates a unique program of study that matches the student’s interests. In this video students describe programs they are pursuing. There are many other options. More details about minors, second majors, and preprofessional programs for psychology majors.

Activities

Students describe campus organizations that are popular among psychology majors including Psychology Club, Psi Chi, ABPsi, Active Minds, Peer Advising, the Student Advisory Committee and volunteer experiences. More information about psychology student organizations.

Advising

Faculty assist students with academic and career planning. Students often find the relationships they build with their advisors to be extremely helpful as they chart their futures. More information about the psychology faculty.

After   Graduation

Psychology Majors describe their career plans. This video describes some options, but the opportunities are limitless.
