2006 - 2007 Academic Year Service Activities

Dr. Craig Abrahamson was elected the new chair of the General Education Council and the Chairman of the Membership Committee of the International Society for Explorations in Teaching and Learning (ISETL).  He was the keynote speaker at the annual JMU Honors Program Award Ceremony, April 2007.

Suzanne Baker serves as the Chair of the Recruitment, Retention & Public Relations Committee of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, and as an ETS Advanced Placement Examination Reader and Table Leader.  Dr. Baker served as chair of the JMU Department of Anthropology Academic Program Review Committee and as  an External Consultant for Elon University’s Psychology Department program review.

Kimberly DuVall-Early made a presentation to the JMU faculty on “Teaching Critical Thinking to GPSYC 101/160 Students” on August 23, 2006.

Adjunct Psychology Faculty member Marshall Graham served as the learning partner for an Alternative Spring Break Trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica.  The Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI) program focused on health issues and homelessness through relationship building that occurs through direct interaction with the local community. 

Joann Grayson led a discussion about EMU Theatre Department’s production of Medea as a “Talkback” guest on February 22, 2007.  Joann was also selected for JMU’s “Be the Change” campaign, and appeared in WMRA’s Insight in January.

Arnie Kahn served as chair of the JMU IDLS Academic Program Review Committee, and the Women’s Studies Program Search Committee.  Arnie also serves as the Book Series Editor for the Association for Women in Psychology (APA Division 35).

Steve Evans serves as Chair of the JMU Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services (IIHHS) Research Community and the University Faculty Research Council.  He is the director of the Raising the Bar Conference and JumpStart Summer Day Camp held annually at JMU.

William (Bill) Evans has been elected President Elect of the International Network on Personal Meaning (INPM).  The INPM is dedicated to advancing health, spirituality, peace and human fulfillment through research, education, and applied psychology, with a focus on the universal human quest for meaning and purpose.  (See http://www.meaning.ca/index.html ).

Michael Hall is serving as the program committee chair for the Annual Meetings of the Society for Music Perception and Cognition (SMPC) that is holding it’s meeting at Concordia University in Montreal in July 2007.

Natalie Lawrence has served as the Chair of the Planning Committee for the Eastern Conference on the Teaching of Psychology (ETOP).  This conference, co-sponsored by JMU and the American Psychological Association will be held in June 2007.

Aashir Nasim served as Chair of the IDEA Grant Committee for the Office of the Special Assistant to the President.

Bryan Saville is serving as the Chair of the Society  for the Teaching of Psychology (APA, Division 2) Teaching Excellence Awards Committee.

Sherry Serdikoff has been asked to serve a three-year term as the Applied Behavior Analysis program chair for the Eastern Psychological Association, beginning with the 2008 conference in Boston.  Dr. Serdikoff was elected the new chair of the CISAT Graduate Council.  

Michael Stoloff, Steve Evans, & Joann Grayson participated in RMH-JMU Collaboration on January 26, 2007.

Michael Stoloff served as a member of the Academic Program Review Committee for Berry College, Mount Berry, Georgia and as an External Consultant for St. Joseph’s University Psychology Department program review.

Cheryl Talley serves as Chair of the CISAT Diversity Council.  For many years Dr. Talley has played a leading role in developing and conducting Sociocultural Competency Workshops for many students enrolled in programs served by the Center for Innovation and Health and Human Services. She has conducted these workshops for faculty groups, as well as administrative support staff.

Judy West made a dorm presentation in Ikenberry on “Memory and Test Taking Strategies for Multiple Choice Tests” on December 4, 2006.

Tracy Zinn serves as the Director of Consulting Services for the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (APA, Division 2).
